At the beginning of every year, there is a frisson of excitement to see what the floral trends for the coming year may be. Will the couples follow the soft vintage look that’s been so popular the last few years? Or will the more vibrant coral tones be more of a go-to? Or will they choose to follow the traditional colours of the seasons?
Before the start of each year, Pantone releases their ‘Color of the Year’, which they state on their website as ‘a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude’.
‘For the first time, Pantone introduces two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity as the PANTONE Color of the Year 2016. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times’.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said of their selection, “Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Well, what do you think? Will this guide you towards a specific colour palette? Or will you use their colours as inspiration to add to? The Rose Quartz would look gorgeous with ivory, or mint, or even a gold accent. Or Serenity could be paired with biscuit and oat tones, or brought to life with peach and coral additions.
Or you could follow a completely individual colour scheme – I know I did when I planned my own wedding. We went for my favourite colours, purple and lime green, and it was beautiful, even if I do say so myself! There’s an almost limitless variety out there, so get creative! How will you be inspired?
I’ll be exploring different colour themes once a month, so keep following for a slice of inspiration!
